Geothermal Heating

Geothermal heating is a simple technology that draws heat from the ground during the winter and transfers to your house, and in the summer extracts heat from your house and transfers it to the ground. Geothermal heat pumps are similar to ordinary heat pumps, but use the ground instead of outside air to provide heating, air conditioning and, in most cases, hot water.

Geothermal heating and cooling is very cost effective due to its energy efficiency. A reasonably tight 2000-sq.-ft. home can be heated and cooled for about $1 a day! (Popular Mechanics). Of course these systems are not inexpensive, however it will pay itself back in 5-7 years.

These systems are environmentally friendly as well which is why federal agencies such as the EPA, the Department of Energy and numerous state agencies endorse it. Tax credits up to 30% are available.
